In three state-of-the-art granulation rooms, wet or dry granulations are produced
via high-shear or low-shear granulation processes and are subsequently dried using
the fluidized-bed process. Granulation mixes range in size from approximately 80
kg to 300 kg. The plant has a variety of compression equipment that compresses the
granulation into tablets or caplets. Hard-shell gelatin capsules are filled with
powders and pellets using a modern encapsulation machine. Both aqueous and solvent
coating technology is available for film coating. Additional capabilities include
a high-speed printer, tablet sorter and metal detector.

A 2,700 square foot, self-contained cGMP pilot plant is available and fully equipped
to perform laboratory, pilot and small-scale batches. We also offer our customers
support for the pharmaceutical development of new preparations as well as the optimization
of already established products. Our staff is experienced in writing and executing
protocols in support of process, cleaning and equipment validation and providing
support in technology transfers for pilot to commercial-scale production. We concentrate
on giving new or familiar active ingredients a suitable pharmaceutical form as well
as optimizing production processes and formulation where BASF can draw on its unique,
proven expertise with active ingredients such as BASF’s own production for ibuprofen
and for special processes utilizing pharmaceutical technology, in particular, for
tablet production.
As a customer-focused, make-to-order contract manufacturer, BASF offers a comprehensive
and complete service, including finished dose packaging. At Shreveport, the five
separate packaging lines with environmentally controlled fill rooms reflect state-of-the-art
